The
1957 model year Fords were completely restyled. The 115 inch
wheelbased Custom and Custom 300 sedans replaced the Mainline/Customline.
The Fairlane and the new top-of-the line Fairlane 500 featured
a 118 wheelbase. Both Fairlanes were available in two and
four-door Victorias. The 223 cid six was standard engine with
190 hp 272 up to a 312 cid 245 hp V8s as options. Styling
was clean and sported simple side moldings and small tailfins.
The big introduction for the 1957 model year was the Skyliner,
a retractable hardtop. With a mere push of a button the top
was neatly folded up and stashed in the trunk. Ford sold 20,766
Skyliners in 1957.
